New Meter Installations

Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator, is changing how business energy usage is metered and billed. This new requirement is called P272.

Under the new regulation, all businesses using electricity meters in profile classes (PC) 05-08, that have an advanced meter reader (AMR) and can be settled on a half-hourly basis, will be. This means affected meters will change profile class to 00 or half hourly.

The deadline for implementation was 1 April 2017.

If supply contracts are up for renewal between 5th November 2015 and 1st April 2017, they will need to go through a Change of Measurement Class (CoMC) to half hourly (HH) settlement within 45 days of the renewal date.

P272 should improve accuracy and will also help distributors better understand electricity usage so that they can make sure networks are maintained appropriately.


Are there any benefits of P272?

Half Hourly Energy

Half Hourly, or advanced meter readers, are used on sites that have a maximum demand above 100 kW. Half hourly meters can be found in most large commercial sites, ranging from factories and manufacturing sites to large offices, retailers, and supermarkets. With a 00 or half hourly meter, actual consumption is recorded every half an hour and this is used by the energy suppliers for accurate billing.

Half hourly contract negotiations can be a complex process due to fluctuating wholesale prices and often involve traditional negotiation methods.

In order for us to do this, we will need a signed LOA, allowing us to access the consumption data that is collected and stored by your current provider.
